I thought pingbacks were a good thing. I thought that it meant that somewhere else on the internet someone else had shared your post. The pingback is showing that someone shared your link and it's the search engine's way of making sure the link is valid. Don't quote me on that but that's what I thought they were.

What is point of pingbacks? They seems useless to me, and annoying to read as they confused for comments. And longer scroll to reply form.

I think that if you have a blog, then it is what you need.
Tell people about something, someone is advertising, to somebody else for something else.
Personally, I think so.
Here I have a blog about my travels, but I can not share them with people, because somebody would write that this is spam.
A hoster will also kick :)

Great article! I wrote one similar to this on my website.

One question that I do have is how you can separate the counts for trackbakcs/pings from comments on the main pages (home, categories, etc...). Do you know of a way to do this?

Great blog. Lots of nice little enhancements I plan to try. I find this post a little frustrating in that (being new to wordpress) I don't know what to insert where you show <!-- THE COMMENT LAYOUT -->. Some for-instance examples would be helpful.
